MOMENT OF HONOUR: A section of the students of St. Joseph’s College of Engineering who received scholarships on Tuesday with college chairman Jeppiaar, Principal Jolly Abraham and Director B. Babu Manoharan.
CHENNAI: Merit scholarships totalling Rs.1.36 crore were distributed to 440 students of St. Joseph’s College of Engineering who excelled in academics at a function here on Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, college chairman Jeppiaar appealed to engineering students to work towards creating a blueprint of how the country should be 50 years from now. The whole idea should be to create adequate infrastructure.
He said this was the sixth consecutive year that the scholarships were being awarded to students based on their performance in the university examinations. The scholarship amount to each of the student varied from Rs.25,000 to Rs.50,000.
College director B. Babu Manoharan said this was the fourth consecutive year that the college students have secured the highest number of Anna University ranks. College Principal Jolly Abraham participated in the function.
Students also presented cultural programmes as part of the college’s 14th anniversary celebrations.
