Jail officials blamed for Seenu killing

Staff Reporter

Goverdhan Reddy seeks permission to submit plea about goings-on in jail

Two jail officials accused of shifting Om Prakash to Seenu’s barrack

ANANTAPUR: Patlolla Goverdhan Reddy, one of the 14 remaining accused in the murder of Paritala Ravindra, on Tuesday blamed jail authorities at the District and Sessions Court for the gruesome murder of co-accused Moddu Seenu.

The murder might not have taken place if he was kept in a solitary cell in line with the jail manual of keeping convicted prisoners alone, he said. He raised slogans “Moddu Seenu Amar Rahe.”

P. Ranganayakulu, Special Public Prosecutor for CBI, submitted a copy of the FIR on Moddu Seenu’s killing to the court. Even before Judge K. Gaddenna, could go through the document, Goverdhan Reddy started speaking and alleged that Moddu Seenu’s killing was a conspiracy.

Jail authorities should own up responsibility for the killing, as it was a result of their negligence in discharging duties, he said. He pleaded with the Judge to allow him to submit a petition on the goings-on in the jail to Chief Justice of the High Court and Principal Secretary (Home) through his lawyer, as it was not possible to do so from the jail.

The Judge allowed the accused to speak to his counsel Venkatrami Reddy for an hour outside the court hall. Goverdhan Reddy was said to have named two jail officials and accused them of shifting Om Prakash into the barrack in which Moddu Seenu was lodged.
