Baalu apprises Manmohan of power crisis

CHENNAI: Union Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways T.R. Baalu met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday and apprised him of the power crisis in Tamil Nadu.
An official release stated that Mr.Baalu informed the Prime Minister that against Tamil Nadu’s share of 2,825 MW, only 1,732 MW was received by the State in September. Water storage also was lower during the current year, compared to the last two years.
The Minister sought the intervention of the Prime Minister for mobilisation of additional power for the State to meet its emergency requirements.
The Prime Minister assured Mr. Baalu that he would certainly look into the matter and direct the agencies concerned to take all possible steps to ease the power crisis in Tamil Nadu, the release said.
