Making an assessment: Public Health Minister A. Namassivayam participating in a review meeting in Puducherry on Wednesday. — PUDUCHERRY: Public Health Minister A. Namassivayam on Wednesday held a meeting with officials of the Local Administration Department to review the functioning of civic bodies. Mr. Namassivayam, who also holds the Local Administration portfolio, reviewed the financial position of all civic bodies and sought ways to improve the revenue of municipalities, commune and village panchayats. A separate meeting would be convened shortly to find ways to mobilise revenue resources for the local bodies, a senior official said. The Minister also held discussions on evolving a proper plan of action for managing solid waste in the town and suburban areas. A Chennai-based organisation, involved in solid waste management programme, had been invited for a discussion, he said. The Minister also directed the heads of local bodies to attend to the complaints lodged by the public in a prompt manner. He also discussed about the status of civic works taken by the civic bodies. Secretary to Local Administration Department Ramesh Tiwari and department director of E. Vallavan attended the meeting.
