Villagers block road following rumour of boy’s death

TIRUCHENGODE: Villagers of Sadaiyanputhur blocked Tiruchengode- Erode Road on Tuesday night following a rumour that a boy who was arrested for his alleged involvement in a theft case died.
Police said a few unidentified persons stole jewellery from a temple in Suriyampalayam.
A group of persons reportedly assaulted a 16-year-old boy in nearby Sadaiyanputhur village suspecting his role in the theft. Later, they handed over the boy to Tiruchengode police, who sent the boy to the observation home in Salem.
Meanwhile, villagers in Sadaiyanputhur blocked the traffic following a rumour that the boy died in the observation home. Revenue and police personnel rushed to the spot and pacified the agitators.
