Scholarship budget for minority students raised Congress proved its sincerity by providing quota NIZAMABAD: Pradesh Congress Committee president D. Srinivas on Wednesday said that no government except the one led by Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy had done better for the welfare of the Muslim minorities. The Congress government raised the budget for scholarships for religious minority students to Rs. 202 crore in the current financial year, while it was just Rs. 6 crore during 2002-03 in the TDP regime, he said while speaking at a function organised in connection with Maulana Abul Kalam Azad birth anniversary here. Paying rich tributes to Maulana Azad, he said the former was a great leader, statesman, educationist and above all a staunch secularist. He said the Congress government as promised was committed to uplifting Muslim minorities and proved its sincerity by providing four per cent reservation to minorities in education and employment. Collector B. Ramanjaneyulu said 30 per cent subsidy being given to SCs, STs in the self-employment schemes was also being extended to minorities. Zilla Parishad Chairman Taher Bin Hamdan, Mayor D. Sanjay and A.P. Urdu Academy director Nazeeb Ali, DCC president G. Gangadhar and corporators were present.
