All the TDP leaders stage a walkout before the close of poll process VIZIANAGARAM: In the absence of a consensus between BSP and Congress councillors the election to the Vice-Chairperson post was put off once again on the second day on Wednesday. Presiding Officer S. Swamy Babu announced that the election was postponed indefinitely and it will be held only after receiving a directive from the State Election Commission. All the 11 TDP councillors, who were present, staged a walkout five minutes before the close of the election process at 12noon protesting against the ruling party councillors’ attitude. Later, talking to reporters, V.S. Prasad, TDP floor leader in the Council, said in spite of having majority in the council the Congress-BSP combine could not elect the Vice-Chairperson even on the second day due to lack of consensus. Dr. Prasad said that the TDP would support if a dalit councilor were proposed for the post. Earlier, the Congress and BSP councillors met at the house of K. Veerabhadra Swamy, MLA to choose a consensus candidate. But none of the four aspirants – K. Gangadhar, A. Venu, Lenka Mohan and Y. Kumara Swamy – was ready to sacrifice the opportunity. Once again, it as referred to Housing Minister Botcha Satyanarayana. Meanwhile, Municipal Chairperson A. Suribabu said three or four councillors were in the race for the post. K. Veerabhadra Swamy, MLA, and Minister for Housing Botcha Satyanarayana, would take some more time to finalise a candidate for the Vice-Chairperson post. He said there were no differences among the BSP and Congress councillors as they all belonged to the ruling party. With regard to his alleged phone call to TDP councillor M. Chandrasekhar threatening him with dire consequences, the Chairperson said his conversation was distorted to suit him and he would be more careful in future.
