The awards will be presented at Bal Bhavan on Children’s Day Bal Vikas Academy to be set up at Dharwad very soon BANGALORE: Two teenagers who helped the police arrest a chain-snatcher by noting down his motorcycle number and informing the Police Commissioner about the incident are among the four children who have been chosen for this year’s bravery award. Dharwad’s prideSpoorthi S. Patil, who is 17 years old and Pranav Patil, who is 16 years old, of Dharwad are the two teenagers who displayed their presence of mind in helping to arrest the chain-snatcher. Eleven-year-old Omkar Malagowda of Chikkodi taluk has been chosen as a recipient of the bravery award for saving the life of his brother who was drowning in a tank. Similarly, another 11-year-old boy Sachin A. Watekar of Indi taluk has also been chosen for the award for saving a seven-year-old girl from falling into an open well with a depth of 50 feet. FunctionThese children will be honoured by the Women and Child Welfare Department at a function to be organised on the occasion of Children’s Day celebrations in Bal Bhavan in Bangalore on November 14, Women and Child Welfare Minister P.M. Narendraswamy announced on Wednesday. Talent recognisedEight children, including the youngest, cine director Master Kishan, who have exhibited exceptional talent in the fields of culture, sports, academics and arts, have been chosen for the “Exceptional Achievement Award”. They are: Shreya G. Shet, Shimoga and G. Shriya Dinakar, Bangalore (academics), Master Kishan, Bangalore and Shreya S. Kumar, Bangalore (arts), B.H. Tanvi Rao, Mangalore (culture), Aniketa R. Chindak, Belgaum, M. Satvik, Malleshwaram and Manisha Joycin D’ Souza, Udupi (sports). Child Welfare AwardsSwami Vivekananda Youth Movement (HD Kote taluk) and Child Rights Trust (Bangalore) have been chosen for this year’s annual award of the Women and Child Welfare Department, for their service in the field of child welfare. The awards will be presented to these institutions at a function to be held during the Children’s Day on November 14 in Bangalore. For the blindSwami Vivekananda Youth Movement is working towards integrated education for blind children and their rehabilitation, besides conducting health check-up for children in Government and aided schools, and creating awareness on health and sanitation issues. BeneficiariesAs many as 34,693 children have been benefited by the institution so far. Similarly, the Child Rights Trust is working in the field of child rights and also holds workshops and training for NGOs in the field of child rights. Individual awardsIndividual awards in this category have been given to Tribal and Rural Development Society’s (Chamarajanagar) director B.S. Basavaraju and Azad Youth Club’s (Karwar) honorary worker Nazir Ahmed. Bal Vikas AcademyMinister Narendraswamy said the Bal Vikas Academy, which is an organisation that looks into the policy measures required for the all-round development of childrens’ personality, will be set up in about a week at Dharwad.
