MUMBAI: Batsmen were found wanting in the ability to play out a four-day game, as the 23rd Sportstar Trophy under-19 selection trial tournament final round ties reveal. Vijay Manjrekar XI, 155 for eight in the second innings, is 135 runs ahead with two wickets in hand against Khandu Rangnekar XI on the second day of the third round match. Rangnekar XI, after taking a 20-run first innings lead, managed to restrict Manjrekar XI to 155 for eight in 62 overs in the second essay. Medium-pacer Digvijay Singh (three for 47), supported by left-arm spinner Pratik Sargude (two for 39) and off-spinner Siddharth Prasad three for 20, kept a tight leash on the batsmen at the Vengsarkar Academy, Oval Maidan. Vijay Merchant XI, after taking 112-run first innings against Dattu Phadkar XI, reached 85 for the loss of opener Chandrasekhar Thate’s wicket (53 runs, 116b, 148m, 7x4). Phadkar XI was earlier shot out for 87, the wicket-takers being off-spinner Pratik Gawli (12-3-30-5) and fast bowler Faisal Balwa (two for 20). The scores: Vijay Manjrekar XI 100 & 155 for eight (Nikhil Patil 41, Digvijay Singh three for 47, Siddharth Prasad three for 20) vs Khandu Rangnekar XI 120 (Parth Nikhil 27, Sanket Yadav 26; Sahil Madgaonkar three for 43, Suryakumar Yadav three for 7). Vijay Merchant XI 199 & 85 for one (Chandrasekhar Thate 53) vs Dattu Phadkar XI 87 (Pratik Gawli five for 30). — Special Correspondent
