CHENNAI: Students of Corporation schools will soon be offered training in music, dance, drawing and spoken English, Mayor M. Subramanian said on Wednesday.

At a prize distribution ceremony for Corporation school students, he said training in fine arts and language skills would enhance the learning process. He encouraged students to excel in extracurricular activities.

The Mayor honoured nine students who emerged winners in the painting competition organised by St. John’s International Residential School to commemorate the Children’s Day. About 50,000 students of Std. IV–IX had submitted entries in the initial round held last week.

The short-listed students took part in the final round held at Valluvar Kottam on Wednesday. Cash prizes of Rs. 2,000, Rs. 1,500 and Rs. 1,000 were given to the top three winners in three groups. R. Kishore Kumar, senior principal, St. John’s International Residential School, commended the participants for the creativity they had displayed in their works.
