EXUDING WARMTH: Actor Rajinikanth receiving a copy of the book ‘My Country My Life’, authored by BJP Leader L.K. Advani, in Chennai on Wednesday.

CHENNAI: Bharatiya Janata Party leader L.K. Advani met actor Rajinikanth at his residence in Chennai on Wednesday evening, after which the actor attended the function to release the Tamil version of Mr. Advani’s autobiography.

Mr. Advani was cryptic about the political ramifications of the visit. “I quoted his public statement that he would come to politics only at God’s call. I said that I appreciate that statement,” he told journalists after the event.

When Mr. Rajinikanth came on stage to accept a copy of the book, ‘En Desam, En Vazhkai,’ he was greeted with loud applause, prompting Tughlaq editor Cho S. Ramaswamy to remark, “Why should he wait for the call of God when he gets such a response here?”

Mr. Advani said that the visit had proved a happy meeting with the actor and his family members. “Rajinikanth has been pressing me for a long time to visit him here…It was a long-standing desire for him and me. Today that desire was fulfilled,” he said. The two discussed various things, including Mr. Rajinikanth’s latest film. The actor also presented Mr. Advani with a DVD copy of Sivaji, with English subtitles.
