Degree college for Sattenapalli

SATTENAPALLI (GUNTUR DT.): Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Thursday promised stabilised irrigation water supply to Krishna Delta region from 2009-end following storage of water at Pulichintala Multi-Purpose Project and repairs on Krishna Delta canals.

Addressing a public meeting at fully-packed Sarabhaiah High School grounds, he said that inundation of large areas during monsoon in the Krishna Delta will be a thing of the past and from next year all drains will be in a proper condition following works taken up earlier this year. “Telugu Desam Party never even thought of constructing Pulichintala Project though 150-year-old ayacut was turning into a desert,” Dr. Reddy pointed out.

When the Congress began construction of projects like Pulichintala and Polavaram, the TDP could not digest it and started mud-slinging, but could not prove any corruption charge.

The TDP concentrated on percolation wells and watershed trenches but never conceived fruitful projects for the farmers, the Chief Minister added.

Nagarjuna Sagar Canals Modernisation was also being taken up to help even tail-end farmers to get water at the end of five-year project period. Margin money waiver for SC, ST loanees had benefitted them by Rs.1,300 crore.

More than a crore of women in Andhra Pradesh would turn ‘Lakhpati’ within next one year following the subsidised loan scheme available for them, Dr. Reddy said. Giving away Rs.40 crore of matching grants to Self-Help Groups from all over the district, he reminded the people that TDP had utilised woman power ornamentally or for its own ends, but never did anything concrete for them pointing out that Congress had sanctioned loans at 25 paise interest rate compared to Rs.1.25 interest rate during earlier period.

While he promised Cement Concrete roads for several towns in the Palnadu region, the Chief Minister said a Government Degree College would function at Sattenapalli within one year from now.

The Sattenapalli MLA Yerram Venkateswara Reddy, Minister for Transport Kanna Lakshmi Narayana, Guntur MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao, District Collector B. Venkatesham were present at the public meeting.
