Tributes paid to Jawaharlal Nehru

Minister all praise for BCIC, Madras Telugu Academy

VIZIANAGARAM: The Sprit of Unity Concerts for Universal Integration, organised by the Bharat Cultural Integration Committee and Madras Telugu Academy began without much fanfare at Ayodhya Maidan here on Friday.

Botcha Jhansi Lakshmi, MP, lighted the lamp to mark the inauguration and Minister for Housing Botcha Satyanarayana garlanded the portrait of Jawaharlal Nehru on the occasion of his birthday. The Minister, the MP, K. Veerabhadra Swamy, MLA, G. Ram Narayana Reddy, Collector, and Vikram Singh Mann, Superintendent of Police released pigeons. T.V.K. Shastry, chief convenor, honoured the dignitaries with shawls and garlands.

Addressing the gathering, the Minister said it was heartening that the BCIC and MAT had been striving for strengthening universal integration through art and culture.

Good performance

Display of talent by child prodigies followed immediately after the Minister’s address. Eight-year-old Upadrashta Gangadhar with his masterly recitation of Bhagawat Gita with meaning of each sloka was flawless. Another child prodigy V. Raghava Srivathsav, 10, from Hyderabad, spelt sentences and words in reverse order. He won accolades from one and all when he spelt backwards sentences like “a friend in need is a friend indeed,” Spirit of Unity Concerts for Universal Integration, Bharat Cultural Integration Committee,” and a number of English words. At the age of 6, he earned a place in Guinness Book and Limca Book. M. Lavinashree, a 4th standard student from Madurai recited a few poems from ‘Thirukkural’. Other child prodigies R. Ajeeth (Key Board), M. Raghava Datta (general knowledge), Bojja Krishna Jeshwanth (karate) and Mallika (magic) (all from Visakhapatnam), Super kid Reshmita Krishna from Nandyal (reciting 51 Bhagawat Gita slokas in 20 minutes), K. Mahathi (key board) from Chennai, Narayanam Gayathri Navya (kuchipudi), R. Rishi (vocal), Akshita Rajakumari (carnatic Music) made the audience spellbound with their performance.

All the children were presented Samaikya Bharat Gaurav Satkar. Samaikya Bharat Swarna Puraskar of Rs. 1,01,116 each was also presented to Ravi Kondala Rao, stage and cine artiste, to Police Department and Govt. Music and Dance College. The Police Department and the College have to institute gold medals out of the accrued annual interest and present them to exemplary police official and college student.
