Take care: An awareness rally to mark World Diabetes Day undertaken in Salem on Friday. SALEM: Seminars, processions, free camps and even a food festival were organised to mark the World Diabetes Day here on Friday. RallyA rally was held under the aegis of Salem Government Medical College Hospital in which hundreds of medical and para-medical students took part. They carried the placards that bore messages warning people that diabetes is one of the major killer-diseases in India. They also distributed pamphlets which insisted on strict dietary controls and exercise schedules. District Revenue Officer M. Rajarathional flagged off the rally which covered important places in the city. Dean Shanmugam and senior doctors of the Government hospital also took part in the rally. Various organisations and hospitals also conducted free medical check ups for diabetes. Cenney’s Institute of Hotel Management here organised a food mela in which diabetic diets were displayed. Negative calorie food items were also displayed.
