THALASSERY: Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan has demanded that a police special investigation team (SIT) be entrusted to carry out a detailed probe into the seizure of country-made bombs in different parts of the district. Mr. Vijayan told reporters here on Friday that the latest seizure of large cache of bombs from Cheruvanchery and North Poyilur and the killing of two Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) workers in a bomb explosion, allegedly while making bombs, at Cheruvanchery on November 10 were an indication that the RSS was preparing for unleashing violence in the district in a big way to disrupt peace. Alleging that the large number of country-made bombs seized from Cheruvanchery and North Poyilur had been made by RSS activists, he said the large-scale making of bombs was part of the RSS attempts to create trouble in the district. The CPI(M) leader said the RSS was using RDX-like substances for making bombs. Referring to the investigation into the Malegaon blasts, Mr. Vijayan said the Sangh Parivar was making preparations for creating troubles in the country. He alleged that the Sangh Parivar had infiltrated into the Army during the tenure of the Vajpayee government. The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government which succeeded the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government had turned a blind eye to this reality, he said. Asked for his comment on Kerala Sahithya Akademy chairman and writer M. Mukundan’s controversial remarks on Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan in an interview, Mr. Vijayan said the writer had no need to evaluate him and Mr. Achuthanandan. He said he was not responding to Mr. Mukundan’s remarks as the Chief Minister and Cultural Affairs Minister M.A. Baby had already reacted. Mr. Mukundan had reportedly termed Mr. Achuthanandan an ‘outdated saint’ and ‘old-fashioned leader’ and stated that the State today needed leaders like Mr. Vijayan. To a question on CPI(M) dissidents at Onchiyam in Kozhikode, Mr. Vijayan said the party was ready to involve ‘a group of misled comrades’ if they were ready to correct their mistakes. He, however, emphasised that the CPI(M) would not embrace a section that was trying to destroy the party. Later, Mr. Vijayan inaugurated the State-level Cooperation Week celebration here. In his inaugural speech, he said that the Reserve Bank of India’s controls on cooperative banks would weaken the cooperative sector in the State. Observing that the cooperative sector in the State was a successful popular movement, he said the total deposits in the primary cooperative banks had risen to Rs.40,330 crore from Rs.20,000 crore in two years. The RBI’s proposed controls and licences would deprive the cooperative sector of its freedom, he said. Mr. Vijayan said that the plan to weaken the cooperative sector was part of the agenda of globalisation. Minister for Cooperation G. Sudhakaran presided over the function. Ramachandran Kadannappally, MLA, and RUBCO chairman E. Narayanan were among those present at the function.
