GUNTUR: India’s first-ever international coffee ‘Arabica blend’, with beans imported from Colombia, Costa Rica, Kenya and Ethiopia, has been launched in Guntur and Bangalore simultaneously by Global Coffee.

“The Guntur-based company is the first to import and blend the coffee to offer people a product that is known for its moderate acidity and evenly balanced flavours and textures,” company’s managing partner Shujayathulla Khan told The Hindu.

Expansion plans

“No company in the country has imported coffee beans and marketed the imported coffee for ‘filter coffee lovers’ so far. We have launched this at all the premium stores of Guntur, Vijayawada and Bangalore to begin with and propose to expand it to Mumbai and Delhi soon,” Mr. Khan said. Describing the distinct features of ‘Colombian Gold’, roasted and blended coffee powder that comes in an international pack, he said: “Kenyan AA beans are grown on fertile red volcanic soil that give a smooth winey flavour – sweet and aromatic. Costa Rican beans coming from mountainous Tarazzu region outside San Jose have a tangy aroma, sparkling acidity with rich overtones.”

The coffee was meant for high-end premium customers and would be sold through all the major retail outlets in 200 grams pack.

“The speciality of the packing is that it arrests the freshness of aroma or roasting up to nine months, giving it a good shelf life,” Mr. Shujayatullah explained.

Expecting to begin with an initial 1,000 kg per month sales, he expects to grow continuously after it was launched in Mumbai and New Delhi markets. Clarifying the doubt of buyers that if there would be an ‘instant’ version of the African/American blended coffee, he said that they were currently blending the filter coffee at their Bangalore unit with world’s best blenders employed. Very soon they would launch the ‘instant’ version.
