The 18-member nations on November 13 wound up the Colombo Plan Conference with a declaration that “the economic development of the less-developed areas is a major challenge of our times.” “The peaceful evolution of world civilisation requires that this challenge be met,” the final conference communiqué said. The Ministers comprising the Consultative Committee of the Colombo Plan – a co-operative organisation for the economic development of South and South-East Asia – decided that the meeting next year would be held in Indonesia.
