Dwivedi remanded to police custody
Staff Reporter
Mumbai: Dayanand Pandey alias Sudhakar Dwivedi, a suspect in the Malegaon blast, has been remanded to police custody till November 26. Permission for brain-mapping, polygraph and narco analysis was taken at the Nashik court on Friday.
The remand order states that Pandey had directed suspect Lieutenant-Colonel Prasad Shrikant Purohit to procure RDX, said Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) counsel Ajay Misar. He is being brought to Mumbai.
Forensic tests showed “traces of RDX” in the Malegaon blast. However, there was no confirmation of whether it was military grade RDX, according to ATS chief Hemant Karkare.
Pandey, who allegedly had two more aliases, had “major involvement” in the Malegaon conspiracy, Mr. Karkare had said earlier. He had close ties with the suspects arrested and took part in several meetings. The “conspiracy” meetings were held in Indore, Deolali, Bhopal and Nashik among other places, Mr. Karkare said. Pandey’s name had come up during the investigation of other suspects.
