Shweta bags a double

LUDHIANA: Shweta Chandra Rana clinched a double crown in the National sub-junior tennis championship that concluded at the Harvest Tennis Academy, Jassowal, here on Friday.

The National women’s finalist, 15-year-old Shweta blanked third-seeded Prarthana Thombare. Shweta then partnered Ankita Raina to down Smriti Joon and Pooja Narayana 4-6, 6-4, 10-3 in the doubles final.

The boys’ title went to top-seeded Ronit Bisht who recovered from a slow start to outplay second-seeded Digvijay Singh, who retired midway through the third set.

The results (finals):

Under-16 boys: Ronit Bisht bt Digvijay Singh 4-6, 6-0, 3-0 (retd).

Under-16 girls: Shweta Chandra Rana bt Prarthana Thombare 6-0, 6-0; Doubles: Ankita Raina & Shweta Chandra Rana bt Smriti Joon and Pooja Narayana 4-6, 6-4, 10-3.
