VUYYURU: Local MLA K. Parthasaradhi on Friday disrupted crushing activity at KCP Sugar factory demanding that the process be carried out only after the management increased the sugarcane price. While 2.32 p.m. was considered an auspicious time to commence the crushing process at the factory, the MLA, on receipt of information, rushed to the place well ahead of the scheduled time. Apparently angered by what he called the “indifference on the part of the management”, he said he would not allow the crushing process to be taken up until the management fulfilled its promise. He pointed out that he had given up his indefinite fast in January in support of his demand that the price of sugarcane be increased to Rs. 1,200 a tonne, when the general manager of the factory G. Venkateswara Rao intervened on behalf of the management on the second day of the protest to assure him of price revision. All attempts to pacify the MLA failed to yield result. The factory officials tried in vain to persuade him to withdraw from the protest scene and allow the crushing activity to take place as per the ‘muhurtam’.
