Flood victims get relief material

MADURAI: The Madurai District Branch of the Indian Red Cross Society distributed relief materials to flood victims at a function held in the Collectorate on Friday.

Collector P.Seetharaman, who is the president of the IRCS (Madurai branch), gave away the relief material that included kerosene stove, saris, dhotis, utensils required for cooking, among other items.

Recently, there were continuous rains in many parts of the district. Low lying areas in the city and rural pockets were inundated. Many people lost their belongings in the floods in Vadipatti and other locations.

The Red Cross Society received the relief material valued at Rs. 6 lakh from the State branch. Secretary of Madurai Branch V. Krishnan, treasurer V. Velusamy and retired revenue officers arranged for the distribution to the victims in the presence of Tahsildar (North) S. Selvaraj.
