JD(S) backs move to run KSRTC buses in Udupi

Staff Correspondent

Udupi: The district unit of Janata Dal (Secular) has welcomed the Government’s decision to introduce KSRTC buses, in addition to the existing private buses, in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts.

In a press release issued here on Friday, president of the district unit of the party Deviprasad Shetty said that although private buses had been meeting the transport needs of the people in the two districts for all these years, the rapid development being witnessed here now called for the introduction of government buses. These services would be of great help for students, the elderly and the physically challenged people. The passengers were given a rough treatment by some private bus drivers, conductors and even owners.

These two districts were the cradle of banking as many banks had originated here in the private sector.

The Centre nationalised the four banks that were started here and it had proved advantageous to bank-workers and the public, the release said.
