End killing: Fans of actor Vijai observing a fast in Thanajvur on Sunday. TIRUCHI: Fans of actor Vijay observed fast here on Sunday urging the Central government to take steps to stop the genocide of Tamils in Sri Lanka. The day-long fast organised near Khadi Kraft junction was led by the Tiruchi District Vijay Narpani Iyakkam district president R.K. Raja. The fast was inaugurated by the DMK district treasurer K.K.M. Thangaraja. The Communist Party of India State council member M. Selvaraj, Pattali Makkal Katchi State youth wing secretary T. Arivuselvam, Bharatiya Janata Party district president L. Kannan, Samathuva Makkal Katchi State organising secretary B. Paneerselvam, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam town secretary A. Malarmannan and representatives of other political parties and human rights organisations spoke on the occasion. They demanded steps to halt the killings of Sri Lankan Tamils in the island nation. ThanjavurA similar fast agitation was held in the town condemning what they alleged the “genocide” in Sri Lanka. They appealed to the Central and State governments to mount pressure on Sri Lanka Government to announce a ceasefire. G. Bhaskaran, Registrar of Tamil University inaugurated the fast. Thanjavur district president of the Vijay Narpani Mandram Vijay Saravnan and others participated in the fast. PudukottaiThe fans in Pudukotai went on a day’s fast in front of the Old Bus Stand here. The district president of the Mandram, Stanley Moscow led the stir. AriyalurA similar fast was observed by the fans in front of the Taluk Office here on Sunday, condemning the ethnic violence in Sri Lanka. They urged the Centre to take action to put an end to the genocide of Sri Lankan Tamils. The district secretary of the Ilaya Thalapathy Vijay Narpani Mandram, Ariyalur headquarters, M. Siva, led the fast. The Congress MLA from Ariyalur, D. Amaramoorthy, and the Honorary president of the mandram, N. Dhanapal, spoke. PerambalurThe district president of the mandram, K. Sivakumar, led the fast observed in front of the New Bus Stand. The district secretary of the DPI, Kittu, and the Municipal Vice-Chairman, Mukudan also spoke
