KDH village: issuing of land titles to resume

A Correspondent

Distribution of application forms to begin on November 21

116.5 acres of land has been identified for distribution to landless people

Issuing of land documents was stopped pending inquiry into alleged fake title deeds

KATTAPPANA: The issuing of documents for land holdings in the Kannan Devan Hills (KDH) village in Devikulam taluk will be resumed from November 21 with Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran inaugurating the distribution of application forms for those who are eligible to receive rights on the land at a function in Munnar.

With this, it is expected that the houseless people in the taluk, who could not get houses through the various housing schemes of the three-tier panchayat due to non-production of the documents would benefit.

The issuing of land documents was temporarily stopped in Devikulam taluk as part of an inquiry into the alleged fake title deeds and documents accessed by private individuals.

Sources said the Minister had assigned the Taluk Land Assignment Committee in this regard. The representatives of the three-tier panchayat, including Munnar grama panchayat president Y. Nadarajan had held a discussion with the Minister in Thiruvananthapuram recently. It was decided to distribute the application forms for getting right on the land holdings on November 21.

The sources said that 116.5 acres of land had been identified for distribution to estate workers and landless people in the taluk.

Issuing the documents for holding the land and accepting tax on it was stopped in 2002 and various housing schemes meant for the poor in the KDH village including the EMS housing scheme could not be implemented properly by the block panchayat .

In the current financial year, out of the 330 persons selected for availing the benefit of the housing scheme of the block panchayat, 80 were from Munnar and Devikulam grama panchayats, the sources said and added that 15 per cent of the plan funds of the grama panchayat are for housing purposes.

The housing scheme meant for Scheduled Tribe and Scheduled Caste categories, which are a prominent section in the two grama panchayats were also affected, they said.

Mr. Nadarajan said that 10 cents each in Kuttiyar Valley and five cents each in Munnar colony and Devikulam will be distributed and the application is available at the village offices.
