Retired lecturers from private and aided colleges are unique because they are neither gazetted nor non-gazetted officers. They may be said to be in ‘Trisanku Swarga’. The medical benefits that accrue to pensions of both Central and the State Governments do not accrue to the pensions of those working for aided colleges. And they don’t know why there is this discrimination. I appeal to the State Government to sanction at least Rs. 500 a month to every retired lecturer of private aided colleges. K. Sujatha Nagaraja Rao Kavali, Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore district Common man left in the lurchTo speak and to agitate against injustice and improper acts will not solve matters in the present set-up. Let us focus more on the troubles and difficulties faced by the common man and try to find out a remedy to help him. The authorities are not in a position to reduce prices, give proper medical aid and, at least, reduce the burden on the shoulders of children by removing a few books from their school bags. I do not find any reason why we should cling on to the present politicians and rulers who have no intention of helping the common man in distress. K.V. Subrahmanyam Ongole, Prakasam district Address terrorism Terrorism in India is growing by leaps and bounds and terrorists are posing many dangers through their destructive blasts. The menace should be brought to an end either by the hook or crook. Otherwise, it would spread like wildfire. Of late, suicide attacks have become a routine in several parts of Kashmir. The bigwigs at the helm of affairs should think of a political solution by arranging a dialogue or through following pragmatic measures. Let all the major nations think of ways to nab the culprits and save humanity from the clutches of terrorists. Banda Nageswara Rao Chirala, Prakasam district Positive vibesThe dreams of Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela, who fought against racial discrimination, have come true with the stunning victory of Barak Obama, the Democrat Senator, as President of the U.S. In fact, the most optimistic slogan ‘Yes we can’ had a positive impact on the hearts of Americans. The U.S. has proved yet again that it is for fair democracy. It certainly paves the way for giving better opportunities to the needy of all ages of the U.S. and establishing peace and prosperity on the entire American soil, which, in turn, strengthens unity among other nations of the world, especially the Gulf nations. M. Blessing Moses Polavaram, West Godavari district
