Andhra Pradesh
The political situation, particularly in Andhra Pradesh, is gripped by election fever. The massive meetings organised by major political parties, spending crores of rupees to mobilise people causing inconvenience to the public is neither necessary nor warranted in view of the adequate knowledge acquired by even the rural illiterate over the last 60 years. They will elect proper person irrespective of the political party, but basing on their own experiences of false pre-election promises and would even recall them if need be. The mudslinging indulged in by top leaders of their political parties without realising that those living in glass doors should not throw stones against others, is bound to cause more harm than benefit politically. N.V. Rama Rao Visakhapatnam DSC examThe Andhra Pradesh Government has introduced CBSE syllabus in some schools where pupils are taught in English medium from Class VI. But till now the questions in DSC examinations were only in Telugu language. The Government should give the DSC 2008 question paper in bi-lingual form for the convenience of students who had studied in English medium. Abdul Rasheed Shaik Visakhapatnam Bank interest ratesThe reduction of interest on deposits by national banks in response to the Reserve Bank of India’s advice will drive people, particularly those from the middle classes and senior citizens. The Union Finance Minister says Indian banks are safe and isolated from the global financial crisis. But he is not justified from the view point of the Indian middle class and I am afraid the chit fund sector will rise, increasing the risk factor. S. Ramachandra Rao Visakhapatnam Increase guarantee limitWith the collapse of major banks in US and Europe, people in India are apprehensive about their deposits in Indian banks. At present, there is guarantee on only Rs. 1 lakh, provided by the deposit insurance corporation of RBI. This rate was fixed decades ago and it is high time it was increased to at least Rs.10 lakhs as most of the senior citizens after retirement deposit the money in banks and depend on the interest accrued on the deposits for their livelihood. N. Gopalakrishnan Visakhapatnam Novel schemeChief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy recently directed the officials of Higher and Collegiate Education Departments to prepare a comprehensive action plan to see that students get ready employment once they step out of their academic courses. Certainly, this is a novel scheme as it helps alleviate the hardship experienced by the unemployed graduates. The Chief Minister also expressed the desire to implement the above scheme by involving the Jawahar Knowledge Centres, Rajiv Udyogasri Mission and other such organisations. I suggest a free hand be given to the colleges with autonomous status. G. Mary Hema Prabha Kakinada
