Letters to the Editor
It was a historic and proud moment for all Indians, particularly space scientists, when the Moon Impact Probe on board Chandrayaan-1 ejected and landed on the lunar surface with the Indian tricolour painted on it. By joining the elite club which hitherto consisted of the U.S., Russia, Japan and the European Space Agency, India has proved that its space programme is as advanced as that of the others. We are now convinced that an Indian astronaut will walk on the moon’s surface in the not too distant future. Rajnish Raj Yadav, Bhagalpur The Indian Space Research Organisation has made every Indian proud. Just as governments and corporates spend crores on the Indian cricket team when it wins a championship, they should come forward to honour the scientists by giving them a token gift. Did they not execute a flawless task?S.A. Panicker, Thiruvananthapuram Hats off to ISRO which made it possible for India to touch down on the moon. We await the glorious day when an Indian astronaut will step on to the moon. Thehseen Zakir, Kochi Even while we lament the existence of casteism and corruption that disfigure the face of modern India, let us celebrate its achievements and progress in science and technology, industry and education, and arts and music. Our scientists deserve to be heartily congratulated on their spectacular accomplishment.V.V. Raman, Ames, Iowa
