Kerala reigns supreme

MAKING HIS MARK: Rohit Kumar of Uttar Pradesh set a National record in the boys’ under-18 javelin event.

MYSORE: Kerala contingent was cock-a-hoop. And understandably so, after retaining the overall championship trophy with a whopping tally of 36 gold, 31 silver and 21 bronze at the conclusion of the 24th junior National athletic championships at the Chamundi Vihar Stadium here on Sunday.

Kerala won team honours in the girls under-16, u-18, u-20 and the boys u-20 sections to emerge overall champions.

The results: Boys: Under-20: 800m: 1. Pankaj Dimri (Utkd) 1:55.67s; 2. Ajit Kumar (Jhd); 3. Vipul Rana (UP). 5000m: 1. Karan Singh (Har) 15:09.50s. Long jump: 1. A. Rositti Sax (TN) 7.01m; 2. Angello S.S. (Ker); 3. Sobin George (Ker). Discus: 1. Arjun Kumar (Del) 54.30m (NMR; Old: 53.90, Harpreet Singh, Delhi, Vijayawada, 2004); 2. Anshu Rai (UP); 3. Dharamveer Singh (Har). 4x100m relay: 1. Kerala (Md. Sadiq, K. Shareef, Sajith K., Anoop T.K.) 42.44s. Decathlon: 1. Mubarak A. (Ker) 6276 pts. Pole vault: 1. Awadesh Kumar (UP) 4.40m.
