Advice to Collector

In the State, Krishna district is enjoying significance in several aspects.

As a resident of the district I wish to make a few suggestions to the new district Collector N. Sridhar, which may help him improve the administration further. First, the relations between the officials and citizens must be improved at the mandal-level.

The Collector’s mobile phone should be accessible to one and all for curbing collection of ‘mamools.’ Surprise visits to the Government offices may help him know the ground realities. The offices of the Tahasildars must be converted into service-oriented centres and there is a need to adopt carrot and stick policy to extract work from the employees.

Why privatise road transport?

The buzzwords nowadays are BOT (built, operate and transfer) and PPP (public, private partnership). Projects costing crores of rupees are being awarded to private firms and individuals on the basis of either BOT or PPP.

Even the State Government has begun to award contracts in this way. Why shouldn’t the Government launch such scheme for the road transport? Why should APSRTC keep suffering losses?

Why shouldn’t the Government award a contract to SETWIN and a few such organisations to run the service with their own vehicles and wait for a year to see the results? I feel there is nothing wrong in giving an opportunity to the organisations like the SETWIN.

A welcome step

The decision taken by the Union Cabinet to introduce a bill in Parliament to restrict the publication of exit polls till the end of the polling process is desirable and necessary.

The publication of hypothetical calculations of election results and winning chances of political parties amidst the phases of election process may have a profound influence on the minds of the voters.

There is every possibility of the people getting carried away by such influence while casting their votes. The practice of exit polls may affect the concept of free and fair elections.

Teach formal English grammar

Formal English grammar was taught in high schools till 1950s. By the time the students leave the school, they acquired the knowledge of fundamentals in English. The object of education before independence was ‘class education,’ which was later changed to ‘mass education.’

As a consequence, the quality of both the teaching and learning has gone down. It is, therefore, a necessity to introduce teaching formal grammar in addition to various lessons as per the present scheme.
