SANGAREDDY: Erukala Galaiah, E. Venkamma and Gouda Yellaiah – the three farmers from Devunikuchanapalli village of Medak mandal, are once again going round in circles at the Collectorate here on Monday.

Earlier, they had approached the Collector on November 3 with their grievance that never seemed to be resolved. Their plight is pathetic as they are at a loss to know what to do or how to go about it. This is just the tip of the iceberg. There are hundred such farmers who had lost their crop due to pests.

First they approached the RDO in Medak. Later, they went to district Collector Peeyush Kumar to address their problem. He in turn entrusted the job of surveying the fields and verifying the facts to the RDO of Medak who is also the Joint Director of agriculture.

These farmers are at a loss about the procedural norms for seeking compensation for crop loss due to pests.

Joint Collector Ram Shankar Naik assured the farmers to extend assistance in the shortest time possible. On the other hand, the survey directed by the Collector has not yet been completed, though the prelimnary report was sent to the Agriculture Commissioner in Hyderabad. “Present estimation puts the loss in 5,000 acres. It will take some more time to make a complete assessment. However, we presented the facts to the Agriculture Commissioner who will take a decision,” Joint Director of Agriculture Chandrasekhar told The Hindu.
