Would be utilising 15,000 of its employees for polling duty Would be constructing 10,565 out of 10,861 polling stations NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has been sanctioned about Rs.3 crore by the Chief Electoral Officer’s Office to undertake construction of over 10,000 polling stations in its area for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. The announcement was made by the civic body’s Deputy Commissioner (Elections) Z. U. Siddiqui at a meeting of the MCD Standing Committee on Monday. In addition, the MCD will also be utilising 15,000 of its employees for polling duty during the elections. The number of polling stations to be constructed by the civic body will be 10,565 out of a total of 10,861. The remaining will be constructed by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and the Delhi Cantonment Board. The maximum number of polling stations will be constructed in North West Delhi, followed closely by North East Delhi. The civic body will also be providing all necessary arrangements at each polling station including furniture, water, lighting, ramps for the differently-abled and barricades for voters to stand in separate queues for women and men. According to MCD spokesperson Y. S. Mann, the civic body has already floated tenders for selecting the contractor.
