Chandigarh hikes minimum wages

As per price index ending September 2008


Revised rates for minimum and daily wages to be applicable from October 1, 2008

Monthly minimum wage for unskilled workers increased by Rs. 195; daily wage by Rs. 7.50


Chandigarh: The local administration has increased the basic daily and monthly rates of minimum wages as per the Consumer Price Index Number of Chandigarh for the half-year ending September 2008.

The monthly minimum wage for unskilled workers has been increased from Rs. 3,546.50 to Rs. 3,741.50 from October 1, 2008, an official release said here on Tuesday.

For Semi-Skilled-II, it has been increased from Rs. 3,696.50 to Rs. 3,891.50. For Semi-Skilled-I, the minimum monthly wage has been hiked from Rs. 3,796.50 to Rs. 3,991.50, for Skilled-II from Rs. 3,996.50 to Rs. 4,191.50, for Skilled-I from Rs. 4,221.50 to Rs. 4,416.50 and for Highly Skilled from Rs. 4,621.50 to Rs. 4,816.50.

Similarly, for Class III (Staff) the minimum monthly wage has been increased from Rs. 3,821.50 to Rs. 4,016.50, for Class-II (Staff) from Rs. 3,971.50 to Rs. 4,166.50 and for Class I (Staff) from Rs 4,332.50 to Rs 4,527.50.

The daily minimum wage for unskilled has been increased from Rs. 136.40 to Rs. 143.90. For Semi- Skilled-II, it has been increased from Rs. 142.17 to Rs 149.67 for the same period. For Semi-Skilled-I, the minimum daily wage has been hiked from Rs. 146.00 to Rs 153.51, for Skilled-II from Rs. 153.71 to Rs. 161.21, for Skilled-I from Rs. 162.36 to Rs 169.86 and for Highly Skilled from Rs. 177.75 to Rs. 185.25

Similarly, for Class III (Staff) the minimum daily wage has been increased from Rs. 146.98 to Rs. 154.48, for Class-II (Staff) from Rs. 152.75 to Rs. 160.25 and for Class I (Staff), it has been hiked from Rs. 166.63 to 174.13. The rates of minimum wages has been revised for workers employed with hotels, restaurants. Minimum wage without food and lodging for unskilled workers has been revised from Rs. 3546.50 to Rs. 3741.50. --PTI
