ADILABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly (APLA) Committee on Welfare of Scheduled Castes on Tuesday urged the district administration to fill the posts that rightfully belong to the SCs.

The committee was reviewing development schemes and ameliorative measures taken for the welfare of SCs at Adilabad on the first of its two-day programme in the district.

The Committee comprised chairman S. Gangaram, member M. Padmaja (MLC) and special invitees V. Balasuramanyam (MLC) and A. Sridevi (Asifabad MLA) who had an interaction with SC petitioners and leaders of different organisations and officials of different departments.

The review was focussed on backlog of jobs for SCs, disbursal of land among them under land purchase schemes and the phased land distribution programme taken up the State government.

Land development

Mr. Gangaram appealed for development of the land that has already been allocated to the SCs in the district. He was informed that under the fourth phase of land distribution, 3,395 SC beneficiaries were given 6,422 acres of land.

The Project Director of District Water Management Agency (DWMA), Alok Kumar informed the committee that 3,520 acres of land belonging to SCs had been earmarked for development.

The extent came up to 31 per cent of the land allocated, he pointed out.

‘Remove irritants’

The Committee also asked the district administration to remove irritants like pattas being given while actual possession of the land not being handed over to beneficiaries. It also asked the administration to facilitate bridge loans for housing from banks.

The Committee also urged for re-investigation into a case that had been registered about two months ago under the SC, ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act.

District Collector Ahmad Nadeem, Joint Collector Vijay Kumar and others attended.
