Psychiatrist wins award for translation

MALAPPURAM: Dr. T.M. Raghuram, a psychiatrist based in Manjeri, near here, has won the Nalli Thisai Ettum Award for his translation of Vaisakhan’s collection of short stories into Tamil.
This award is given every year for the best translation to Tamil of any work from other Indian and foreign languages and vice versa.
The award carries a citation and a cash prize of Rs.10,000. The award will be given away by Tamil Nadu Minister for School Education Thangam Thennarasu at a function to be held in Madurai on November 23.
Dr. Raghuram has translated several works of prose and poetry from Malayalam to Tamil and from Tamil to Malayalam. An associate professor of psychiatry at MES Medical College, Perinthalmanna, Dr. Raghuram has also penned three volumes of poetry.
