Health staff union launches ‘jeep jaata’
Correspondent
VIZIANAGARAM: Medical and health employees have been asked to oppose the proposed handing over of primary health centres to private societies. With a view to enlightening people and also medical and health staff, United Medical and Health Employees’ Union launched ‘jeep jaata’ on Tuesday. M.V.S. Sarma, MLC, flagged off the ‘jaata’ at the district headquarters hospital.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sarma said that the health sector was in peril due to the ‘lopsided policies’ of the State government. He said that 90 per cent of the people were not benefited by the Rajiv Arogya Sri scheme but corporate hospitals gained from the scheme. The amount of Rs. 200 crores being spent on publicity could be utilised for providing more amenities at PHCs, Mr. Sarma said. S. Lakshmana Rao, union general secretary, said that the ‘jaata’ would touch all PHCs and other health centres in the district during the next 10 days and appealed to people and employees to submit representations to the union leaders. He called upon employees to fight till their demands for regularisation of contract workers, filling up of vacant posts and halt to privatisation of PHCs were conceded.
