dated November 19, 1958: Use of outer space

Several countries are known to have indicated their eagerness to be appointed on the special Outer Space Committee if the Western resolution is endorsed when the Political Committee resumed its debate on peaceful uses of outer space in New York on November 17. The resolution, co-sponsored by 20 countries, calls for the setting up of an ad hoc committee to study various aspects of the problem. The United States, one of the sponsors, is known to favour a committee of nine, but a number of small countries, anxious for membership, favour a larger body.
