17 Bangladeshi fishermen stray into Srikakulam

Staff Reporter

SRIKAKULAM: Seventeen Bangladeshi fishermen who started off at Chittagong in Bangladesh 20 days ago strayed into Indian waters after getting caught in a tempest in the sea.

They surfaced near the coast at Kuppili village in Budagetlapalem panchayat in Etcherla mandal where the locals saw them making frantic signals seeking help. The villagers responded and reached the fishing vessel in their country boats and rescued them. A villager, who knew Hindi, understood their plight and informed Etcherla Mandal Revenue Officer Sattibabu. The fishermen set out on their voyage 20 days ago to catch a particular variety of fish.
