This Day That Age
The Soviet Union on November 18 proposed the creation of an 11-member Preparatory Group to work out a programme and rules for an International Committee on outer space problems. A revised Soviet draft resolution proposed that the International Committee be established within the framework of the United Nations for co-operation in the study of cosmic space for peaceful purposes. The draft resolution announced by the Soviet Deputy Foreign Minister at a Press Conference in United Nations named India as one of the proposed nations on the Preparatory Group. Following is the text of the new draft: “The General Assembly recommends proposals recognising the great importance of international co-operation in the study and exploitation of cosmic space for peaceful purposes, considering that such co-operation will promote mutual understanding and the strengthening of friendly relations between peoples, recalling in this connection the successful beginning of such co-operation within the framework of the International Geophysical Year."
