TV workers’ strike comes to an end

NEW DELHI: After ten long days of boredom watching repeat telecasts, TV viewers across the country can now look forward to fresh episodes of their favourite prime time serials by early next week following a ceasefire on Wednesday between the striking workers and programme producers.

“We will begin production on Thursday and the serials are likely to be on the air from Monday. We are trying our best to hurry up the process,” Creative Eye Chief Executive Officer Dheeraj Kumar told PTI on Wednesday. The production house has aired popular serials like ‘Mann Mein Hai Vishwas’ and ‘Miilee’.

However, leading broadcasters said they had not received any formal assurance from the producers.

“We have just got a verbal communication and are waiting for a written confirmation. We are still to get the details of the deal, but we are happy that the strike has been called off,” said Sony Entertainment Television executive vice-president Albert Almeida.

Federation of Western Cine Employees had called the strike demanding higher wages, better working conditions and more breaks between shoots. Confirming an end to the ten-day stand-off between workers and producers, Federation head Dharmesh Tiwari said “agreement details would be revealed later”.

The strike had impacted TV serials in a big way and forced all channels to resort to repeat telecasts from November 10. - PTI
