Mr Balakrishna Prasad received a cash prize of Rs.15,000, besides a citation and plaque.

Lauding the efforts of the foundation, N. Murali, Managing Director, The Hindu, said P.V. Ramaniah Raja and his family distributed awards for the past 30 year without any break. This year, for the first time, the foundation had chosen someone from the field of sports. Such awards would help to motivate many others to excel in their fields, he said.

R. Sekar, Additional Director-General of Police, Civil Supplies CID, said the foundation had carved a niche for itself, and it was a privilege for those who received award.

Pappu Venugopala Rao, secretary, the Music Academy, said Ms. Humpy was a recipient of the Arjuna Award, while her father, her ‘Guru,’ was a Dhronacharya awardee. It was a rare privilege.

Mr Balakrishna Prasad strove to make the people understand the lyrics of Annamacharya.

Similarly, it would take 13 years to learn ‘Ganas.’ Mr. Venkatrama Ghanapaati was teaching as well as practicing it.
