Congress leaders differ on tie-up with TRS

Such an alliance will only benefit TRS, say some party leaders

HYDERABAD: Congress leaders have divergent views on the hints dropped by TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao that his party wouldn’t mind an alliance with the ruling party.

While some leaders from the Telangana region feel that the party could go it alone in the next polls, others from Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra say that the alliance will only benefit the TRS, but not the Congress.

Adilabad MP Allola Indrakaran Reddy in an informal chat here on Thursday categorically said that the Congress had never said it would create a separate State while forging an alliance with the TRS.

“The party high command will take a positive decision,” he said.

He asserted that there was no problem even if the Congress fought the next elections alone.

He went to the extent of stating that even if no decision was taken on the statehood, the issue would not harm the interests of the party in the next elections.

“The outcome of the by-elections in May is an indication to the standing of the TRS in the region,” he pointed out.

On the other hand, Congress MLA from Kodangal G. Gurunatha Reddy said though the party was comfortably placed at this juncture, “if there is an alliance with TRS, it will add to the party’s prospects”.

Fresh deadline

However, party legislator from Nellore Anam Vivekananda Reddy took a dig at the TRS chief, saying people were not willing to believe the fresh deadline set by him. “We have seen many such deadlines in the past.

The poll tie-up will only benefit the TRS leader, as was seen in the last elections,” he noted.

A senior Congress leader and MP from Andhra region said that it was unlikely that the Congress Core Committee meeting in New Delhi on November 26 would discuss the Telangana issue.
