CHANDIGARH: Several Panchaytas of Kurukshetra district have tried to resolve the issue of depleting water table in their respective areas by implementing a scheme with the help of Command Area Development Authority (CADA). An official spokesman said here on Thursday that these Panchayats had started constructing water channels by digging ponds on Panchayat lands to recharge ground water by utilizing rain water and waste water of the villages. As a result of their efforts, the water table which was 80 to 85 feet deep had now improved to 65 feet and the hand-pumps had became functional. The CADA has given a subsidy of Rs 8 lakh to the Panchayats for implementation of the scheme, he added.
