Letters to the Editor
On behalf of the Pandalam Palace, I convey my deep condolences over the demise of M.N. Nambiar. We remember him as a staunch devotee of Lord Ayyappa, the presiding deity of Sabarimala. He was opposed to deviations and dilutions in the rituals and practices of the temple. Nambiar was at the service of Sabarimala pilgrims as not only the ‘guruswamy’ but also a humble facilitator of infrastructure for devotees at the hill shrine. P.R.V. Raja, Pandalam, Kerala The passing of Nambiar marks the end of an era in Tamil cinema, when even a villain was portrayed with elegance and grace. Soft-spoken and ever ready to help others, Nambiar lived a simple life. He will be remembered forever for his excellent portrayal of negative roles in south Indian films. R. Sekar, Visakhapatnam Tamil cinema has lost a stalwart. Nambiar’s role as a Buddha bikhu in Ulagam Suttrum Valiban was awesome and is remembered to this day. Off screen, Nambiar was extremely religious, caring and non-controversial.K. Pradeep, Chennai
