MADURAI: A speeding cargo van damaged the railway gate at the level-crossing near TVS Nagar on Thursday.
It led to the detention of the Chennai-bound Koodal Express from Guruvayur for 20 minutes.
The driver of the van, carrying wheat flour, tried to sneak through the closing gate around 11 a.m., Railway Protection Force Inspector K.S. Kannan said.
The train was stopped after the gate protruded onto the tracks.
Van driver R. Kalisamy of Kamuthi has been arrested in this connection.
