“Adequate time not allotted for discussing Bills”

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The State executive committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Thursday said more time should have been allotted in the recently concluded Assembly session for a detailed discussion on the 19 Bills that were passed by the House. Though the government decided in advance to discuss and pass the Bills, adequate time was not allotted. During the short duration of four days, much of the time was spent on discussing the Sri Lankan Tamils and the Ambedkar Government law College issue, the party said in a statement. Even for discussion on supplementary budget only one member from each party was allowed to speak. The executive committee said at least in future, the government should ensure sufficient time.
