MADURAI: The Madras High Court Bench here on Thursday summoned R. Paranjothi, a sub-judge who had lodged a police complaint against a group of lawyers in Kuzhithurai in Kanyakumari district for allegedly hurling egg shells filled with acid in 2003. Be present on Nov. 27Passing interim orders on a couple of petitions filed by 12 advocates to quash two First Information Reports (FIR) registered against them, Justice R. Regupathi directed the sub-judge as well as the lawyers to be present before him on November 27. Arguing the case on behalf of the lawyers, Tamil Nadu Advocates Association president S. Prabhakaran told the court that he would always prefer to find an amicable solution to the confrontation in order to uphold the dignity of the judiciary. In their affidavit, the petitioners claimed that they were holding a demonstration inside the local court premises on April 1, 2003, demanding action against the sub-judge for his “partisan approach” in passing judicial orders. Then, a few other advocates owing allegiance to the sub-judge entered into a clash with them. Immediately, the Sheristadar of the sub-judge lodged a criminal complaint with the Kaliyakavilai police against eight of the 11 petitioners. Later, in the afternoon, the sub-judge himself lodged another complaint against a group of advocates for allegedly throwing acid egg shells and stones inside the court hall. He also claimed that the perpetrators broke the furniture and frightened the court staff.
