SANGAREDDY: It’s the heartburn of a farmer, who paid the loan in time and but is being offered peanuts by the government for being prompt and honest. This might be the case of many farmers, but a few of them expressed it openly. Scores of farmers on Friday expressed displeasure before Medak legislator P. Shashidhar Reddy about the cash incentive of Rs. 5,000 offered to them for prompt payment of loans to the banks. “Complete loan wavier has been offered to the farmers who have intentionally not repaid the loans. Those who have paid the bank loans by borrowing on interest or by selling gold are being offered peanuts. Is it justified? Who is responsible for this?” asked the farmers who attended the programme organised by the government to give cash incentive to them at Medak Market Yard. ‘Encouraging ryots’Mr. Shashidhar Reddy agreed with them and told them that he was also among the farmers who had repaid the loan amount promptly. “This move is to encourage sincerity among the farmers for repaying loans. As I can understand your anguish, I will bring this issue to the notice of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy,” Mr. Shashidhar Reddy assured him. At one point of time, police had to intervene to pacify the farmers.
