Compensation for cotton ryots promised

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy has promised to take action against dealers supplying spurious seed to cotton farmers, provide compensation for crop loss and conduct a probe into the circumstances that led to the present situation. This assurance was given by Dr. Reddy to a BJP delegation led by State president Bandaru Dattatreya which submitted a memorandum to him. The memorandum also sought a probe into the substandard quality of seed supplied to them and lapses of the Agriculture Department. The BJP leaders wanted a compensation of Rs.20,000 an acre and the Cotton Corporation of India to purchase cotton.
