PR fans, partymen clash

Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR: A meeting of the Praja Rajyam organised here on Friday to thank the party workers, activists and fans of Chiranjeevi for making the party president’s three-day ‘Praja Ankita Yatra’ in the district a huge success met with an abrupt end following a clash between fans and activists.

A heated argument ensued between followers of party leader V. Prabhakara Chowdary and district president of Chiranjeevi Fans’ Association Sharmas Vali when there was a mention of neglect of fans during the yatra by Rayalaseema Chiranjeevi Fans’ Association secretary A. Surendrababu.

Meeting soon

Speaking at the meeting, party in-charge for the district Bhuma Nagi Reddy stated that a meeting would be arranged in Hyderabad soon so that fans’ association leaders could meet Chiranjeevi as the latter could not spare much time for associations during the visit.

District president Sharmas Vali started speaking in vulgar language over neglect of fans’ associations. He sought to know where the party would be if there were no fans. Angered by his remarks, party leader Mr. Prabhakara Chowdary and his followers tried to snub Mr. Vali but this did not deter Vali.

Followers of Mr. Chowdary, led by Munishankaraiah, another sitting corporator elected on TDP ticket, pounced on Mr. Vali and his followers and the two groups were allegedly engaged in fisticuffs. Leaders, including Mr. Nagi Reddy, intervened and pacified both sides but the fans’ association group walked out, raising slogans against Mr. Chowdary.

Later, Mr. Chandramouli arrived at the meeting and had another bout of heated argument with the followers of Mr. Chowdary. Resuming his speech, Mr. Nagi Reddy said many of the fans’ associations and leaders in the district were thinking as if the party was in power and some portfolios were distributed among them.

There was a lot of hard work to be done to bring the party to power and make Mr. Chiranjeevi the Chief Minister. He sought to know from the fans’ association and activists whether any of them had brought the moves of either the TDP or the Congress to the notice of the party so far. Instead, they were fighting on petty issues.

He advised both sides to work hard to outsmart the rival parties.
