Shops and security
Burglary in a watch showroom points to many other related factors, reports L. Srikrishna
In a recent burglary at a watch showroom in the city, an unidentified gang decamped with goods valued at about Rs. 25 lakh. “It could not have happened without proper planning. The burglars might have monitored the movement of the staff and other things at least for a week,” a police officer said and added that over 20 fingerprints were lifted from the shop.
The showroom had watches in the price range of Rs. 700 to Rs. 3,500. The exact number of missing watches had not been ascertained yet.
The police suspect the burglars to have had inside information about the goods and their worth.
For added security
But for a few showrooms, not many in the city do not have security guards posted on their premises round-the-clock, police say. There are mobile patrol teams doing the night rounds on Chithirai streets and Avani Moola streets and other commercial areas. But it is better if the businessmen employ their own security guards, a police officer said.
In the watch showroom burglary case, the police suspect the involvement of a gang from North India. “It is learnt that watch showrooms in Chennai, Coimbatore and Ramanathapuram had been burgled in a similar fashion.”
